You can use one WhatsApp account on up to four extra phones, or a mix of phones, tablets and computers, all linked to your main phone. Meta announced the change in April 2023. For a dealership, it means more than one member of your sales team can answer customer messages on the same business number.

Before this, you could use an account on one phone plus up to four linked computers or tablets. Now the linked devices can be other smartphones too.

How to link another phone to your WhatsApp account

You link a second phone by scanning a QR code on it with your main phone:

  1. Install WhatsApp on the new phone.
  2. On the new phone, choose to link it to an existing account instead of registering a number. WhatsApp shows a QR code.
  3. On your main phone, go to Settings > Linked Devices and tap Link a Device.
  4. Scan the QR code on the new phone with your main phone.

Once they are linked, messages sync to every device, and the other devices keep working even if your main phone is switched off or out of signal. WhatsApp logs linked devices out if your main phone is not used for more than 14 days.
